National Costumers Association, Halloween and Costumes Association & Paper First Affiliates

Explore the vibrant world of costumes and Halloween, led by the National Costumers Association (NCA) and the Halloween & Costume Association (HCA). Since 1923, the NCA has championed costume artistry and ethical standards, in addition to hosting lively industry events and conventions. Established in 2005, the HCA focuses on boosting nationwide Halloween festivities. These associations shape the enchanting experience of Halloween and dress-up.

Paper First Affiliates (PFA) is America's first and only member-owned buying group for independent party & celebration store retailers. The PFA proudly supports communities and small businesses by connecting you to independent party stores. The annual event for PFA Members provides scheduled one on one time with each vendor, allowing access and opportunity to establish critical relationships and networks.

The Fun Starts Here

Founded as Rubies Candy Store in Queens, New york. The neighborhood candy store sold newspapers, comic books and novelty items.

Rubies Fun House

In 1959, the shop was renamed "Rubies Fun House" and began lines of novelty hats.

Expanding Products

In 1962, Rubies adds more costumes accessories, wigs and masks.

Theatrical Costumes

In 1970 "Rubies Fun House" began manufacturing costumes and entered the theatrical costume field, allowing for a rental department for theatrical quality costumes.

Rubies Costume Company

In 1972, the company name was changed to "Rubies Costume Company".

Rubie Plaza

In 1979, Rubies moved to Richmond Hill, Queens NY. Mayor Koch renamed the street "Rubie Plaza" in recognition of over 20 years of service to the community.

Deluxe Costumes

In 1980 Rubies introduced deluxe children's costumes.

First Major License

In 1990 Rubies signs it's first major license for "Star Trek" with Paramount Pictures.

Collegeville Imagineering

In the 1990s, Rubies purchased Halloween-costume pioneers Collegeville and Ben Cooper. The mergers allowed Rubies to pick up valuable licenses, in addition to a make-up manufacturing facility located in Phoenix.

Warner Bros. DC Comics

In 1992, Rubies signs "Batman" and "Superman" movie licenses with Warner Bros. and DC Comics, introducing deluxe costumes to the market.

Rubies Canada

In 1995, Rubies opens first non-USA operation "Rubies Canada" introducing Halloween to a new market.

Rubies Masquerade Co

Rubies Masquerade Co., UK Ltd started in November 1996 as a new company based in Liverpool. Since then, we have grown into the largest UK supplier for costumes and accessories.

Mask Illusions

In 1998, Rubies merged with "Mask Illusions" of San Diego, CA.

Bayshore Warehouse

Rubies opens new 300,000 square foot warehouse in Bayshore, NY.

Global Footprint

Rubies expands in Europe with additions of Peter Deck Company (Germany), Jofrika-Rubies (Germany), Pro-fetes (France), Seaco (Spain) and Kochniss (Germany).

Into The 21st Century

In 2004, Rubies signs licenses for "Friday the 13th" and "Nightmare on Elm Street".

Rubies' had operations in 14 countries and employed more than 2,500 team members worldwide.

Rubies Acquires BuySeasons

In June 2017, Rubies acquires BuySeasons in New Berlin, which was an online retailer of costumes and party goods.

Princess Paradise

Rubies Costume Company has acquired the Colorado-based costume company Princess Paradise.

Introducing Rubies II

Now a part of the Ad Populum family, Rubies Costume Company was reborn as Rubies II LLC. in 2020.
